Overview

Laura achieved a distinction in both her Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Course. She is now accepting instructions during her second six months of pupillage at Serjeants’ Inn across the full range of practice areas, including public law, police law, discrimination and whistleblowing, clinical negligence, inquests and inquiries, and mental capacity.

Laura completed her medical law seat under the supervision of Sebastian Naughton, where she observed high-value clinical negligence cases and complex inquests. She attended John de Bono KC in a clinical negligence trial concerning fundamental dishonesty, Angus Moon KC in the Supreme Court on a case concerning the doctrine of illegality, and Debra Powell KC in a withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment case in the Court of Protection.

Laura is currently undertaking her police law seat under the supervision of Elliot Gold. She will move to the supervision of David Lawson in December 2025.

During her pupillage thus far, Laura has worked on the following:

  • Protocol pre-action letters and pleadings for judicial review;
  • Police pay, pensions and injury benefits;
  • Police conduct and complaints pursuant to police misconduct regulations;
  • Police civil actions involving unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and personal injury;
  • Particulars of claim and defences in clinical negligence and fatal accident claims in the High Court and discrimination and whistleblowing claims in the employment tribunal;
  • Advices on liability and quantum in clinical negligence claims, police claims and discrimination claims;
  • Schedules of loss, counter-schedules, and expert agendas in clinical negligence cases.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Laura worked as a prison lawyer at a leading prison-law firm, dealing with some of the most dangerous offenders in the country, including those in closed supervision centres. She conducted oral hearings in front of the Parole Board and District Judges, in which she was commended for her ‘very powerful’ and ‘extremely clear’ submissions. She also made written submissions to the High Court.

Laura was also an advocacy fellow of an international charity. She led a small team to produce and present a paper to Members of Parliament on the complexities under international law of the lack of a territorial clause in a Free Trade Agreement.

Laura was a member and a coach of the Oxford University debating team. Laura was also a guest lecturer at City University.
