Professional Discipline & Regulatory
During pupillage Jamie assisted counsel working in disciplinary and regulatory proceedings involving doctors, dentists and police officers. He worked with Michael Mylonas QC on the defence of a dentist at the GDC facing possible erasure, and assisted Michael Mylonas QC and Clare Hennessy with their representation of a GP in month-long fitness to practise proceedings at the GMC. He has since received instructions in his own right to provide representation in fitness to practise proceedings for doctors and nurses, including in cases involving alleged dishonesty. Jamie also has the rare experience of representing a health and safety professional in disciplinary proceedings from his charted body, IOSH.
Jamie’s work in clinical negligence means he is highly experienced with a wide range of medical issues and with expert evidence, and in inquests he regularly advises and represents doctors facing potential criticism. His advocacy experience in the Magistrates Court and before tribunals such as licensing panels means he is familiar with the challenges of hearings before laypersons and multi-handed panels. He is very familiar with evidential issues, such as questions over the admissibility of hearsay evidence.
Jamie accepts instructions in all matters arising from healthcare regulation.
He has particular experience of proceedings in the First-Tier Tribunal (Care Standards) regarding appeals against cancellations.
His wide experience in inquests, clinical negligence and the Court of Protection means he is very familiar with the clinical issues arising in cases involving the CQC, with health and safety matters, and with cases involving significant media attention.
