Liam Duffy succeeds in High Court claim against gastroenterologist

29th May 2026

Liam Duffy secured judgment against the second defendant gastroenterologist in Alexander v (1) HCA International (2) Dr Reffitt [2026] EWHC 1284 (KB): judgment here. The claim concerned the failure to prescribe and administer diclofenac prior to an endoscopic gallstone procedure. HHJ Roberts rejected the second defendant’s account that the medication had in fact been administered, notwithstanding its omission from the drug chart. The Court went on to find that administration of diclofenac would have prevented the claimant from developing necrotising pancreatitis.

Liam was instructed by Saydie Farrell of Irwin Mitchell.
