Katie Gollop QC & Bridget Dolan QC appear for both parties in stem cell donation best interests case

1st July 2020

In the first case of its kind to be heard in the Court of Protection,  Katie Gollop QC and Bridget Dolan QC acted for the parties in an application seeking the court’s consent for a learning disabled young woman to donate her peripheral blood stem cells to her mother who is suffering with leukaemia. The stem cell donation was determined to be clearly in the young woman’s best interests, despite the medical procedure itself being of no therapeutic benefit to her.  Cohen J gave guidance as to how the Human Tissue Authority should approach best interests in the future.
