Sir Robert Francis QC is awarded the 2014 Doubleday Award

31st October 2014

We are delighted to announce that Sir Robert Francis QC has been awarded the 2014 Doubleday Award at the annual Doubleday lecture held this week at The University of Manchester.

Professor Tony Freemont, Head of Undergraduate Medical Education, said: “Sir Robert is one of the most influential people in healthcare today. Specialising in medical law, his report into the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust brought issues of patient safety and quality to the forefront of healthcare and the NHS.”

The Doubleday Award, which is given to an individual of standing who has made a significant contribution to patient care, is presented in memory of Dr Edwin Doubleday, a St Andrews University and Manchester Medical School student who sadly died before completing his medical training.

Sir Robert delivered the annual Doubleday Lecture to an audience of over 400 staff, students and guests. His paper was entitled Candour and Professionalism in Healthcare and he is pictured with (from the left) John Doubleday, Dr Robina Shah and Professor Paul O’Neill.
