Gerry Boyle QC secures acquittal of GP following Crown Court trial

17th April 2018

Gerry, instructed by Katie Costello of BLM-LAW on behalf of the Medical Protection Society, successfully defended a Foundation Year 2 doctor who had been accused of sexually assaulting 5 female patients during a 4 month placement as a General Practitioner.

The allegations, which covered a 10 day period in early 2016, surfaced after one of the complainants put a post on Facebook describing her concerns. All 5 of the complainants gave evidence, as did a number of “recent complaint” witnesses and staff from the practice. The prosecution also relied upon expert evidence from one of the Metropolitan Police’s most experienced forensic medical examiners and chest physicians.

Gerry cross-examined all of the witnesses over successive days before calling the doctor to give evidence and making a closing speech on his behalf. The Jury deliberated for several hours before acquitting the doctor on all 5 counts on the indictment.
