David Morris successfully defends consultant surgeon before MPT

18th April 2025

The surgeon faced allegations of sexual harassment made by three nurses and a secretary, relating to incidents said to have taken place over a 14-year period. The allegations included inappropriate conduct such as undoing a bra strap in a bar, kissing a nurse in a storeroom while aroused, and repeatedly touching a secretary inappropriately.

Of the 17 specific allegations, only two were found proved: undoing a nurse’s bra strap and touching the secretary’s bottom on more than one occasion. The Tribunal noted the doctor’s significant insight and were satisfied that he posed no continuing risk to patients or colleagues. They concluded that his fitness to practise was not impaired, although a formal warning was issued.

David was instructed by Jane Lang of Clyde & Co, on behalf of the Medical Protection Society.
