Elliot has been involved in a number of significant inquests, including the following:

  • Fishmongers Hall inquest (2020)
    Instructed to represent the Chief Constable of the British Transport Police in the terror attack at Fishmongers’ Hall on 29 November 2019.
  • Inquest into the death of Madala Washington (2019)
    Instructed to represent the Chief Constable in a major public interest immunity exercise, in relation to an inquest into the murder of a prison inmate.
  • The Hillsborough inquest (2015)
    Has been part of the legal team representing a number of superintendents and contributed to the legal submissions submitted.
  • Inquest into the death of M Seddon (2015)
    Acted for the Chief Constable in a thirteen-day inquest involving a death after a police-car pursuit and examination of police training, driving, safety policy and computer systems.
  • Inquest into the death of A Kennedy (2015)
    Acted for a prison in an inquiry into the death of a prisoner involving examination of prison procedures for prisoner observation.
  • Inquest into the death of C Taylor (2015)
    Acted for the Chief Constable in an inquest examining police procedures for despatch of officers in an emergency.
  • Inquest into the death of R Stuart and D Hughes (2014)
    Acted for the NHS Blood and Transfusion service in a five-day inquiry into the death of two patients who had each been transplanted with a kidney infected with a deadly parasite – the first ever recorded instance of human to human transmission.
  • Inquest into the death of K Williams (2014)
    Acted for a police Force Medical Examiner in a five-day inquiry into the death of a person in custody.
  • Inquest into the death of David Bone (2014)
    Acted for the prison in an inquiry into the death of a prisoner, handcuffed whilst in hospital.
  • Inquest into the death of Anthony Nolan (2013)
    Acted for the prison in a seven day inquest into the death of a prisoner who had complained about chest difficulty but who received no or insufficient medical attention.
  • Inquest into the death of Nicholas Wheller (2013)
    A fifteen day inquest, acting for the prison involving the death by hanging of a nineteen year old young man in prison.
  • Inquest into the death of Eileen Keating (2012)
    Acted for the police in an inquest considering the applicability and availability of the power of police detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 in relation to a vulnerable person who may not appear to be so.
  • Inquest into the death of William Heywood (2012)
    Acted for the prison in an inquest into the death of a prisoner from heart difficulty.
  • Inquest into the death of Richard Wheeler (2012)
    A three day inquest, Instructed for the Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys. Mr Wheeler, a motorcyclist, collided with a police car travelling with its emergency sirens on, driving quickly to another incident.
