Overview

David well knows the terror felt by healthcare professionals facing criminal charges which, if proved, lead to prison. Before specialising in healthcare law and related medical crime he accumulated many years’ experience prosecuting and defending a wide range of criminal cases. He has represented doctors facing charges of theft, fraud, sexual assault and gross negligence manslaughter.

David was junior counsel for the managing director of an outdoor adventure company in the first corporate gross negligence manslaughter case. Seven students died when their canoes capsized in Lyme Bay.

experience & expertise

As well as defending David has prosecuted for the Crown Prosecution Service, Customs & Excise (VAT fraud and drug importation) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). He successfully conducted the CAA’s first prosecution of a commercial airline pilot who had negligently endangered his aircraft and passengers by mistaking the northern perimeter road at Heathrow for the runway.

He has defended doctors in fraud, sexual assault, drug and gross negligence manslaughter cases over many years.

Cases have included doctors indicted for sexual assault at Lincoln and Chelmsford Crown Courts.
